last night i was watching a show on WE called " The Secret Lives of Women" and they had one about extreme beliefs. these women were so passionate about their religions and other beliefs ( such as PETA) that is was quite inspiring. it made me realize that i wanted to be more passionate about my religion. so im thinking about a self initiation. this might just be the key to filling in that spiritual gap i feel once in a while. my questions are, do i need to devote a spacific deity and as a celtic pagan, is there a difference in initiation if we even go that route? and also i have been wanting to give the goddess a sacrifice of something. like flowers or something. how would i go about doing that and what is the best thing to use herb or stone wise for that? if im confusing im sorry :/

letscall_l, posting in solitarywiccans @ 09:48 pm: Uncle
My uncle passed away today. It was imminent but its always sudden. Everyone in my house is obviously, and has the right to be upset. I want to do something. Even though he is christian I still want to hold my own ritual, or blessing for him. Something to honour his spirit and provide hope. And also to provide hope for the rest of my family.
It doesn't have to be grand or bold, just simple- but I'm inexperienced with ritual design and was looking for tips? Has anyone else been in this position? What did you do?
Blessed be

If anyone else is planning to attend, or looks at the site and thinks "gee, that might be fun!" please feel free to find me. I should be on site for the whole event and would like a chance to meet some 'kindred spirits' .

Yes, this is cross-posted, so for those of you on more than one of the same lists please forgive the duplication.

Bright Blessings!!

wingedwolf666, posting in solitarywiccans @ 11:21 pm: Finance Spells?
Hello all,

The next few months are going to be potentially very difficult for me and my family, with me starting college, and various other things going on. I haven't cast a 'money spell' for four years, and I feel it's time to cast one now.

Does anyone have good links to spells, or know of any that have worked for you? I tend to create my own spells from already existing ones, but a good resource would be appriaciated.

Two other things while I'm at it. Firstly, does anyone know where to get good quality Wiccan robes in the UK, ans secondly, does anyone know any good spells to help with Winter Depression? (SAD/Seasonal Affective Disorder?)

Thanks!

Hello

I'm new here and i hope this post is okay, if it isn't please delete and let me know.

My best friend's dad has been diagnost with liver cancer 6 months ago. Things were pretty bad but after a while and some hospital work things got better. He even went back to work.

Now things are going downhill again. The doctors are saying he doesn't have long to go.

I wish there was something more i could do for my friend and her family. They are really christian and i don't want to bring too much of my belifs into their life yet i want to do something.

Does anyone has any spells or something that can be done to try and ease the emotional suffering?

thank you

So I met this really cute rabbi who is amazingly open to...everything, pretty much. I read one of his sermons and was struck by this part of it:
"When Galileo was prosecuted by the church for his heretical beliefs, he wrote a letter which detailed the following: God has written two books for us. One of them, the Bible, is the book of revelation. The other, the book of nature, is the book of sensory experience, of knowledge, and of discovery. It’s impossible for them to contradict each other – they both have the same author. Can we read both books? "
Isn't that fascinating?
Thanks to hot Rabbi Linder for sharing.

bubbblegum, posting in solitarywiccans @ 03:51 am: The moon is waning right now, and I want to do a spell to heal a friendship. My friend and I are in this huge fight, and I really want to patch things up, but she's completely ignoring me so I can't get through to her. Anyways, I'm wondering -- since it's the waning moon, would it be a bad idea to do a healing spell? I was thinking it would make more sense to do a "banish negativity" spell to correspond with the moon phase...

My problem is, I have had troubles in the past with spells like that. If I'm not extremely specific in the type of magic I need, it will usually backfire on me in some way. For instance, I did a communication spell once for one of my girlfriends -- I wanted her to feel like she could be more honest and open with me. A week later, she "opened up" and told me she wasn't in love with me anymore. Then we broke up.

I understand that this was necessary and probably best for the both of us, but it still makes me worry. I feel like if I do the "banish negativity" spell, it won't work in the way I would like it to.

Should I do it anyway? Or should I do the healing spell like I originally planned?

raayneforest, posting in solitarywiccans @ 11:19 pm: Feeling Friendless
Over 4 years ago I ended a major relationship in my life and the collateral damage I didn’t anticipate was losing who I thought were good friends. Even though friends say they won’t pick sides, eventually and sadly they do. Since then I’ve moved on but I seem to be having the hardest time making new friends. If I do, they end up pushing me away, try to manipulate me, or just can’t connect. It’s as if I’m cursed.

This is doing wonders for my self-esteem. Does any one have a similar situation were they overcame this through a ritual or path? Any advice is welcomed and appreciated.

I'm specifically trying to track down quality statues of Greek (...or Roman...) gods and goddesses. Are there any sites that you use that you can personally recommend? Otherwise, I'm going to be browsing Witchvox until my hair turns gray.

I'm not sure if this is okay to post but I am hurting a lot right now and was hoping someone could share, or point me to a spell or two that may help. The actual part of me that needs healing is rather personal, so I've stuck it under a cut.

fallonmay, posting in eclecticpagans @ 07:34 pm: Let's chillax together, shall we?
I've been thinking a lot lately about charity and service (inside and outside of the pagan community). My main issue being that there's a lot of talk and not a lot of action. But it's been said before and I'm not here to preach (Ooo...that awful word).

So, first, some links!

Some links from the Circle Sanctuary for Pagan groups doing charity work.

The Open Hearth Foundation makes me happy. The first Pagan Community Center.

A list of pagan charities from Mind'n'Magick.

Another list.

Officers of Avalon are really an amazing group of people.

Avalon Cares was a creation of Officers of Avalon which is down now but I feel it's worth mentioning.

Goddess Moon Circles Helping and Warming Program.

One of the best articles about Pagan Charity, "It's For a Good Cause (Really)". Just as a warning, Pagans Donate appears to be no more.

And now for a personal anecdote.

Last year I was possessed by the urge to do something. As most often happens, when one is possessed by an urge "something" is done and "something" is accomplished. Whether it was what you initially intended to do or accomplish is completely besides the point. That urge led to [info]charity365 which just recently hit it's one year anniversary. My goal, as it was, was to do at least one thing everyday to help other people or the planet. For the most part, due to my life being a little insane, all I did was click once a day at the Greater Good Network and the Ecology Fund, play a little FreeRice.com and donate some money here and there. Which wasn't bad for a first go around.

The funny thing was that hitting that goal made me feel good. Really, really good. So good, in fact, that I was possessed by another urge (oh, boy).

This urge is a little more ambitious, however. This year I want to get other people involved. I want to ask others to join me to do one thing, every day, that makes the world just a little bit better.

So once a week I'm going to post the links (behind a cut, because courtesy does make the world better) and ask everyone to save them to their favourites. I'm going to ask that we take five minutes a day to just do something. Because something is better than nothing.

For this first post, the links are not behind a cut.
